We drive for close to an hour. I watch the trees out the window. The leaves all varying shades of fall, as the last few clings to the branches. The Forrest floor is an array of autumn colors. I try to use this time to process the events of the last twenty-four hours. Garret has stepped in and helped me in the exact moments I needed. He somehow knew I needed help when the furniture arrived, He knew exactly how to talk to me when I was having a panic attack, and he knew I was going to need time to process all the new information about The Court. He has tried to make decisions based on what was best for me. He is taking an active role in taking care of the trouble I have found myself in, not just saying he will support me through it like Nathan had done. I am choosing to trust Garret. I am choosing to trust The Court. If my grandfather was a King, he must have believed in their cause, and if they are as selective as Garret makes it seem, they most likely will be my best bet on staying safe.

Once Nathan is no longer after me, I will reconsider leaving, but for now, I believe Garret. When he said I was safer with his help, I believed every word. Garret pulls off the highway and drives through a wrought-iron gate. Stone buildings with stained glass windows line the streets.

“Where are we?” I turn to see a cocky smile cross Garret’s face.

“Welcome to Acadia University.” I look around, and a sense of familiarity rises within me.

“Why are we here?” I ask, trying to remember if I should know this place from somewhere. I cannot help but think I have heard the name “Acadia” before, but I am unable to pinpoint from where at the moment.

“Acadia University is of the most prestigious schools on the east coast. And home to Gamma Theta Kappa. Also referred to as The Court to those who have the privilege of joining.”

“That doesn’t answer my question of why we’re here.”

“I was getting to that. Patience, sweetheart.” He laughs, his smile growing. “Tatum came to get some of the initiates to work on finding Nathan. He has an update.”

“Update as in you found Nathan?” My heart drops to my stomach with the thought Nathan could be nearby.

“I am not sure,” I told him to tell me once we arrived. I don’t want to keep secrets from you. You said you trust me; I’m just trying to prove to you it was a good choice.” His tone softer than before, with no hint of sarcasm.

I sit quietly for a few more minutes. Why would he need to prove himself when I already gave him my trust?

We drive past several more buildings before turning. In front of us is a huge cathedral. Towers sit on either side of gorgeous stained glassed windows and stonework.

“You said we were going to a frat house,” I say, looking over to Garret, wondering why we came to a church.
